FUSION is a cross-conservatory performing group, featuring several of California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley's talented performance ambassadors. Comprised of student artists in grades 7-12 auditioned from the school's different arts conservatory programs, this group represents our campus in professional level community and campus performances.

This group fuses disciplines, genres, and eras of music and art.

Can FUSION students participate in outside activities such as shows, sports, etc.?

Participating in outside activities after school hours is a family decision, except when outside commitments interfere with FUSION. When that activity is school-related, it is expected that students of FUSION conduct themselves in a professional manner as they are representing CSArts-SGV as its performance ambassadors.

What factors are considered in the continued participation of a FUSION student?

You are being evaluated year round at every rehearsal and performance. Your participation in FUSION is not guaranteed from year to year. Auditions will be held yearly.

Here is an example of our evaluation criteria:

  • How you contribute to the FUSION team
  • Training/Experience
  • Motivation/Energy
  • Positive attitude
  • Preparedness
  • Vocal range/singing ability
  • Excessive conflicts
  • Classroom conduct
  • Attendance/academic probation
  • Suitability for the role/production
  • Excessive demerits/detentions
  • Choice of repertoire (appropriateness, thematic integration, how it showcases you as a performer)

What do I need to know about the FUSION auditions?

Can newly accepted students audition also?
Yes, any current student, and all newly accepted students can audition.

Is there a particular genre or style of music you are looking for?
FUSION captivates audiences with their contemporary, upbeat, and pop-styled performances.

Can anyone at CSArts audition for FUSION?
FUSION is an interdepartmental performing group consisting of newly accepted and returning students ranging from grades 7 - 12.  Students with unique skill sets are encouraged to audition, as the Creative Team often features a wide variety of celebrated student artists throughout the year.  If you have a special skill set, please come to the audition prepared to demonstrate your unique talents.

What is the time commitment for FUSION rehearsals?

Friday afternoon rehearsals are mandatory throughout the school year.

Additional rehearsals will be scheduled as needed at the start of the school year and prior to an upcoming performance.

Are students required to participate at all FUSION events?
As long as the Creative Team is given enough notice, we will make accommodations for any excused absences.

What is the policy for students having rehearsal or show conflicts?

As a FUSION Student, it is your responsibility to effectively communicate your FUSION rehearsal and performance calendar when participating in any non-FUSION endeavors.
