Attendance Policies

Please consult the full Student-Parent Handbook for current Attendance Policies and Procedures

  • Students who need to leave early, please inform the attendance office beforehand, preferably no later than noon on the day they need to leave. Students who leave campus prior to receiving parental consent will be marked as Administrative Truant for classes missed. Additionally, remind your student to obtain an "Off Campus" pass from the attendance office during their break or passing period to leave early, as we cannot guarantee delivery.

  • For medical or dental appointments, provide verification of appointment upon returning to school the following day. For three consecutive sick days, please provide a medical note.

  • When reporting a tardy, please note that not all traffic or Metro incidents are considered excused tardies. Traffic incidents or Metro disruptions that affect a large number of commuting students may be excused with administration approval.

  • Auto Alert calls received regarding an absence for any single block. Please ask your student to approach their teacher to clarify the issue. The teacher will contact the attendance team and correct the absence if an error occurred.

  • All absences must be cleared within 72 hours of the absence, and any supporting documents, such as doctor or dental notes, must also be received within that timeframe. Absences outside of this timeframe will be marked as truant or unexcused truant. Refrain from sending multiple emails or making calls regarding the same issue, even if you receive a notification that your student is absent. Please note that our attendance team may not have had the opportunity to review your previous email.

Short-Term Independent Study

Our school offers a Short-Term Independent Study Program for students who are absent due to illness or travel but are still able to participate in school activities online. This program is available for up to 15 school days per year.

If you are interested in exploring this option, parents need to complete the CSArts-SGV Short-Term Independent Study Request Form.

Once your student has submitted the required work and followed the necessary steps, they should send the work to Assistant Principal of Student & Special Services Sean Kerr. After the teachers have verified the work log, the attendance record will be updated in Aeries to reflect the short-term independent study days as credit received.

If you have already filled out the Short-Term Independent Study form, do NOT report absences, as that will override and cancel your Independant Study request. If you previously reported the absence as a sick day to the attendance office, you can not later change it to Independent Study.

Work Permits

Students in need of an employee work permit should visit or email the Attendance Office at attendance@sgv.csarts.net. Please provide the details of the employment in the body of the email, including the name and address of the establishment, phone number, and supervisor’s name. Once this information is received, you will be be given or emailed Form CDE B1-1 Statement of Intent to Employ, which requires the student’s, parent’s, and supervising employer’s signature. Once the form is returned to Ms. Bolton, the form will be processed and your work permit will be issued within three business days.

For Entertainment Work Permits, you must complete the registration and application process on the California Department of Industrial Relations website here. Once you have obtained the required school form, please email it to Ms. Bolton and your permit will be processed within three business days.

Please Note: Students applying for a work permit must have satisfactory semester grades of “C” or better in all classes and no more than 15 absences during the school year, as reflected on the most recent semester grade report.
