Mindy Shiroma joined the Orange County School of the Arts in 2012 and currently serves as a High School Counselor at CSArts-SGV.  Previously, she served on the counseling staff for Newport-Mesa Unified School District and Arcadia Unified School District.

Originally from the Seattle area, Shiroma relocated to California in 2001 to attend California State University, Long Beach where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, while continuing to pursue her creative passions -- theater and dance.  She also attended Eastern Washington University where she earned her Master of Science degree in Applied Psychology: School Counseling.

Additionally, Ms. Shiroma is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) who also holds a College Counseling Certificate from UCLA and a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential from the State of California.

Emily Christy graduated from California State University, Fullerton where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then earned her Master of Science in School Counseling at California State University, Long Beach. Additionally, Mrs. Christy holds a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential from the State of California and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Disabilities Studies. 

As an Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) alumna, Mrs. Christy has a special appreciation for the CSArts-SGV school culture. She has worked with students of all levels in preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in Norwalk-La Mirada, San Juan Capistrano, Duarte, and Yorba Linda. Prior to her time at CSArts-SGV, Mrs. Christy served students with disabilities in the Special Services Department at OCSA.

As a professional school counselor, Mrs. Christy has a passion for supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally, as well as with their college and career goals. She is honored to be an official member of the CSArts-SGV community!

Beatrice McMillen

Mrs. Beatrice McMillen comes to CSArts-SGV with a breadth of experience. She has worked in K-12 education for seven years in various positions, including Community School Coordinator, College Counselor, and Attendance Counselor. Mrs. McMillen also has experience working at the community college-level, supporting incoming freshman students and transfer students.  

Mrs. Beatrice McMillen received her bachelor’s degree in creative writing from University of California, Riverside and her master’s degree in educational counseling from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Additionally, she holds a California Clear Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in school counseling. Mrs. McMillen says that she was inspired to become a school counselor because of her background as a proud first-generation college graduate. She is passionate about supporting students as they navigate their path to higher education and postsecondary plans. Mrs. McMillen is excited to join the counseling team at CSArts-SGV and looks forward to working with students and parents.
